Lineage & Gurus
अथ योगानुशासनम् ॥१॥

“now, the practice of yoga begins,”
My study of yoga and spirituality with my Guru Srivatsa Ramaswami is now spanned over a decade. He has been my light who help me guide through the world of yoga. I completed my first intensive course with him in Madrid, Spain, 2016. It helped me see, understand
and live the yogic science of asana, pranayama, pratyahara,
accompanied by dharana and dhyana.
Ramaswami taught yoga sutras word by word accompanied by important vedic chantings. Later every year, I got blessed to learn the philosophy of Samkhya, Yoga, Bhagvat Gita and Upanishads from him, which I will be eternally grateful for. His teachings are full of sincerity and his art of story-telling is inimitable. His oratory on difficult sacred subjects like
Darshan-Shastras is easy to understand.
Vinyasa Krama Yoga is an ancient practice of physical and spiritual development. It is a systematic method to study, practice, teach, and approach to yogasana (yoga posture) practice is unique in all of yoga. By integrating the functions of mind, body, and breath in the same time frame, a practitioner will experience the real joy of yoga practice.
Each of the important postures( asanas) is practiced with many elaborate vinyasas (variations and movements). Each variation is linked to the next one by a succession of specific transitional movements, synchronized with the breath. The mind closely follows the slow, smooth, deliberate ujjayi yogic breathing; and the yoking of mind and body takes place with the breath acting as the harness.
-- Srivatsa Ramaswami
In short, VK Practice is a holistic compilation of asanas/postures practiced with pranayama/breathing patterns and tri-bandhas/three locks, pratyahara/withdrawal of senses, and lastly dhyana/meditation.

Story of Ramaswami & his Guru T. Krishnamacharya
My guru Ramaswami Srivatsa, spent most of his early years in Madras, India. During his junior college years, his father started taking yoga therapy lessons for Ramaswami’s elder brother from Pandit T. Krishnamacharya. Later the complete family became disciples of T Krishnamacharya.
TK was then known as an asana-vadyar (teacher of asana’s).
Ramaswami studied for 33 years under the "grandfather of modern yoga", T Krishnamacharya.
Krishnamacharya was a great scholar of Vedic scriptures and shastras. He taught Ramaswami, different vinyasas and asanas, Vedic recitations, chanting's, Upanishads, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Samkhya-Karika and so on and so forth.
